Meet Blake Wendel – Manager of Client Success

What is your role with InReach? As the Manager of Client Success I help oversee the day-to-day operations of Production Services, Live Events, Contact Center and contribute to the Client Success team. I spend my time equally between the various departments, and view my primary role as immediately diagnosing and resolving any technical or customer issues. This covers everything from escalating issues to engineering or re-distributing workloads to ensure that nothing impacts performance or our clients. While this can sound reactionary, really it involves a lot of planning and preparation to ensure no issues arise. We run a well-oiled machine here, [...]

Marketing Your Continuing Education: Price

So we’ve been talking about the 4P’s of marketing and how they relate to the world of continuing education. We’ve looked at Product, Place and now are going to examine Price. Of all the areas of marketing, pricing can be the most complicated, and most impactful. Get pricing wrong and it can cost you big time; get pricing right and it can pay off big time. The trick is getting it right. If there was a single recipe for success in pricing your product, I would have sold that secret for a bazillion dollars and be jetting around the world in [...]

What is leadership REALLY?

What is leadership? This is an important question at any point in your education or career. It’s not a pleasant situation to be on the receiving end of poor educators or management. So, let’s take a closer look at what leadership really is, and some examples to emulate. Wikipedia’s definition of leadership is “a process of social influence in which a person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task”. Three things stick out to me about this definition of leadership: 1) Leadership as a PROCESS, indicating some level of effort and a narrowing [...]

Course Design for the Modern Learner

As Neil recently pointed out in his blog, learners have changed, and their learning preferences have changed. The question then becomes, how do you develop courses that will engage, stimulate, educate and excite the modern learner? Here are some course design tips we thought you might find helpful: Make it bite-sized. Over-loaded schedules and frequent interruptions makes time for continuing education a luxury. Providing learning in bite-sized chunks will help your learners get key points or tips that they can immediately apply to their professional practice. If accrediting bodies require certain course durations for certification, be sure to build in a [...]

What Modern Learners Want… It May Not Be What You Think

Recently I saw this infographic from Bersin by Deloitte, HR specialists, which dissects the modern learner. While they were focused on learners in a corporate environment, their findings are applicable across industries and provide great insight into the challenges that those focused on professional continuing education encounter. Today’s work places are fast-paced ever changing environments that demand that employees constantly develop new skills and hone their existing ones. Whether your learner is a skilled doctor needing to stay up-to-date with the latest medical advances, or a fork-lift operator who must remain current with all safety requirements, continuous learning is a must. [...]

Transform Static Education to Dynamic, Engaging Content

Time and time again we hear the same plea from education coordinators: “I’d like to begin cultivating a dynamic and interesting online education culture for my organization, but there’s so much work to do considering we don’t have any online content, only pdfs and DVDs.” It’s true, no one wants to be subjected to material consisting of seemingly miles long pages in pdf format and low quality DVDs that do not allow for interactivity. But, the good news is, all of that vital information found in your pdfs and DVDs can easily be transformed into engaging online content. Let’s break it [...]

Marketing Your Continuing Education: Place

In marketing, the term Place refers to where a buyer can go to purchase your product. For many companies this involves deciding on distribution channels, or what resellers to work with, or whether to hire a sales team and sell directly. When applying the 4P’s of marketing (product, place, price and promotion) to the world of continuing education, Place is one that can feel more esoteric since you are not dealing with a physical product. When your product is educational content rather than a physical object, the question isn’t so much about a sales team or resellers, rather it is about [...]

Marketing Your Continuing Education: Product

If you’ve taken a basic marketing course, or done any reading on the subject, you’ve probably heard of the 4P’s of marketing; Product, Place, Price and Promotion. You’ve been told all you have to do is know what a particular group of people wants, where or how they want to purchase it, what they will pay for it and do all that exactly when they want it. In short, all you have to do is offer the right product in the right place, for the right price at the right time. If you’re anything like me you thought, “Yeah right! There’s [...]
